Abstract

This paper examines current practices in world-class discipline development at selected institutions in the United States and the United Kingdom. It summarizes their distinctive characteristics and successful strategies, aiming to provide insights for China’s “Double First-Class” initiative. Key recommendations include strengthening disciplinary culture; fostering innovation and entrepreneurship; developing distinctive disciplinary strengths; promoting interdisciplinary integration; building a world-class faculty; and increasing strategic investment in discipline development.
